Intel 90-nm Process by Mid-2003
Published: Thursday, January 16, 2003 | By: Dennis"On the positive front, Intel is moving full speed ahead with its push towards 90-nm process technologies and 300-mm wafer substrates. In the past, Intel has publicly stated that its 90-nm process would be up and running sometime in the second half of 2003. "
The Prescott processor won't be far behind. -
Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 Review @ RadiativeNZ
Published: Thursday, January 16, 2003 | By: DennisThough it seems strange that someone would do a review of a 2.1 speaker system the format makes sense for your typical desktop usage.
"It may seem unusual to be looking at 2.1 systems, when currently everything seems to progressing towards 5+ speakers, however when you're looking to listen to music in true stereo sound, there is nothing quite like a good 2.1 system."
Though I have a 5.1 Altec system on my desk I hardly use it. The way I see it if you want the surround sound speaker system put it in the home theater where it belongs. If the home theater is actually your computer, you need a bigger TV. -
AOpen AX45-4D Max Review @ HardTecs4u
Published: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 | By: DennisStrange name, interesting results. [hehe]The HardTecs[/hehe] have reviewed one of the newest motherboards from AOpen using the new SiS655 Dual Channel DDR333 chipset. So far this is the first board that I've seen using the SiS655 and based on the performance numbers I don't think it will be the last
The site is in German so for the English speaking crowd I have a translated version provided by google. -
l337 5p34k for the 0ldsk00l
Published: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 | By: DennisI was sent this link today and almost puked. First of all the editor is mocking l33t speak as some sort of online slang used by the youth to confuse the old. Then what is worse, the editor confuses "AOL" and "CompuServe" speak as being l33t! I'm all wft!, nobody uses 4 to mean for unless they are being lame.
After reading though some of the reader comments and decided that trying to correct the writer wouldn't get me much further than yelling on the Jerry Springer show. So I shall refrain.
Be well and l34rn d4 l33+ -

Apple Snubs Mozilla – Kinda
Published: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 | By: DennisThe new Mac browser, Safari, is based on the KHTML rendering engine. This is the same one used by the KDE Konqueror browser in xWindows. Apple says they made the right choice but the Mozilla guys are a little pissed.
Like most proud developers they have read between the lines to discover the source of the problem. This is how they see it.
"Translated through a de-weaselizer, (Melton's e-mail) says: 'Even though some of us used to work on Mozilla, we have to admit that the Mozilla code is a gigantic, bloated mess, not to mention slow, and with an internal API so flamboyantly baroque that frankly we can't even comprehend where to begin,'" Zawinski wrote"
It would appear that they aren't taking it very well.
I asked our resident Mac expert, Talon, what he thought of the new Safari browser.
"It's got a small footprint, it's FAST at rendering HTML, and has good broad support for standards and technologies. It's based on the KHTML open source code base so it will continue to evolve and improve. As it's still a beta it does have some rough edges, noteably poor Flash performance, and it's missing the auto fill form feature of Mac IE and the tabs feature of Mozilla. I'd say it's a great start, fix the last items I mentioned and it WILL BE my browser of choice!"
So there you have it!. -
Corsair TWINX Memory
Published: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 | By: DennisPaired memory modules for Dual Channel DDR applications.
"TWINX memory kits take the guesswork out of dual channel motherboards," stated John Beekley, Vice President of Marketing at Corsair. "By using modules that have been 100 tested, as a pair, in this environment, the user can be confident in the performance and stability of his or her dual channel system."
Sounds like a good idea to me. I wonder if it will actually work? -
Koolance PC2-601 Case Review @ Buddhacon
Published: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 | By: Dennis"Modshop watercooling + window". This could be an alternate title for this review. Basically you take an off the shelf Koolance case, "enhance" it with a Cheiftec window, add some Xoxide swag and sell it for more.
All things aside if you are looking for off the shelf watercooling I'd say go Koolance. Now if you want something better, do it yourself. -

Not to shabby for a privately owned company.
