  • Japan - Human Traffickers

Published: Monday, January 27, 2003 | By: Dennis

"When they arrive, they are told they are in debt bondage, sometimes for up to seven million yen' for their air ticket, food and lodging, said Ms Keiko Otsu of Asian women's shelter Help.

They are under debt bondage so they are actually forced to prostitution, confined 24 hours a day."

They would lead you to believe that the slave trade is alive and well in Japan. This scenario reminds me of a Cowboy Bebop episode where they un-freeze Faye Valentine and say she needs to pay the doctors 30million wo0longs for patching her up. Faye of course doesn't go into prostitution but the situation still would suxX0r.

  • The Unindicted Federal Felon

Published: Monday, January 27, 2003 | By: Dennis

"If you've ever used a peer-to-peer network and swapped copyrighted files, chances are pretty good you're guilty of a federal felony.

It doesn't matter if you've forsworn Napster, uninstalled Kazaa and now are eagerly padding the record industry's bottom line by snapping up $15.99 CDs by the cartload.

Be warned--you're what prosecutors like to think of as an unindicted federal felon. "

shock smile A good read, I'd suggest you look it over.

  • A Little Downtime - Thanks Microsoft

Published: Monday, January 27, 2003 | By: Dennis

Well thanks to the SQL Worm being released over the weekend we had a little bit of downtime here at Ninjalane. The Worm had no direct effect on this site since we are completely msSQL free but it did have a profound effect on the rest of the hosting company's network.

This card should be called nIppleFX big grin smile.

Pictures of the new GeForceFX card are really quite scarce which makes me glad to see that AOpen has changed up the color scheme a bit. They say the card should be released in February

  • Senate Votes to Stop Security Sweeps of Internet

Published: Sunday, January 26, 2003 | By: Dennis

"The Senate has voted to bar deployment of a Pentagon project to search for terrorists by scanning information in Internet mail and in the commercial databases of health, financial and travel companies in the United States and abroad."
This is some good news for all of our personal privacy, I don't think it will completely stop but at least they are looking at the full circle impact.

  • XML Against Terror

Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: Dennis

Goes to show that XML is the future of the Internet and how data is transmitted back and forth.
"In a move targeted at helping those agencies involved in the homeland defense effort, OASIS is putting its XML expertise to use for the cause of national security. The new technical committee is called the OASIS LegalXML Lawful Intercept XML (LI-XML) Technical Committee. OASIS officials said the consortium formed the new committee in response to mandates both in the United States and Europe. "
I'm not sure exactly how they are planning to use XML in this instance but it does sound pretty exciting.

  • Graphics Card War

Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: Dennis

Price cuts and new nVidia products are actually making video cards affordable now. I still remember shelling out $550 for a GeForce2 Ultra from Hercules. That card was the best and would prolly still have it today if I had only ignored my friends.
"New sparks of competition in the high-end graphics card market are expected to be rekindled with ATI Technologies-camp card maker CP Technology planning price cuts for its Radeon 9700 products, while Nvidia-group manufacturers like Micro-Star International (MSI), Albatron Technology and Gainward adding new GeForce4 Ti 4800SE (NV28) cards for the segment."

  • ASUS A7N8X nForce2 Review @ ExtremeMhz

Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: Dennis

This board has been reviewed quite often lately so I'll let you decide if you want to check it out.
" Performance does not come cheap however. The A7N8X is priced at about $140.00. Considering that this motherboard overclocks as well as it does (despite the very conservative cooling setup used during the testing phase), while maintaining rock solid stability and reliability, leads us to believe that the price is justified."
The Soltek Golden Flame will be cheaper than 140, maybe even less than 100 bones. big grin smile
