Aeolus FX from AOpen
Published: Sunday, January 26, 2003 | By: DennisThis card should be called nIppleFX .
Pictures of the new GeForceFX card are really quite scarce which makes me glad to see that AOpen has changed up the color scheme a bit. They say the card should be released in February -
Senate Votes to Stop Security Sweeps of Internet
Published: Sunday, January 26, 2003 | By: Dennis"The Senate has voted to bar deployment of a Pentagon project to search for terrorists by scanning information in Internet mail and in the commercial databases of health, financial and travel companies in the United States and abroad."
This is some good news for all of our personal privacy, I don't think it will completely stop but at least they are looking at the full circle impact. -

XML Against Terror
Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: DennisGoes to show that XML is the future of the Internet and how data is transmitted back and forth.
"In a move targeted at helping those agencies involved in the homeland defense effort, OASIS is putting its XML expertise to use for the cause of national security. The new technical committee is called the OASIS LegalXML Lawful Intercept XML (LI-XML) Technical Committee. OASIS officials said the consortium formed the new committee in response to mandates both in the United States and Europe. "
I'm not sure exactly how they are planning to use XML in this instance but it does sound pretty exciting. -
Graphics Card War
Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: DennisPrice cuts and new nVidia products are actually making video cards affordable now. I still remember shelling out $550 for a GeForce2 Ultra from Hercules. That card was the best and would prolly still have it today if I had only ignored my friends.
"New sparks of competition in the high-end graphics card market are expected to be rekindled with ATI Technologies-camp card maker CP Technology planning price cuts for its Radeon 9700 products, while Nvidia-group manufacturers like Micro-Star International (MSI), Albatron Technology and Gainward adding new GeForce4 Ti 4800SE (NV28) cards for the segment." -
ASUS A7N8X nForce2 Review @ ExtremeMhz
Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: DennisThis board has been reviewed quite often lately so I'll let you decide if you want to check it out.
" Performance does not come cheap however. The A7N8X is priced at about $140.00. Considering that this motherboard overclocks as well as it does (despite the very conservative cooling setup used during the testing phase), while maintaining rock solid stability and reliability, leads us to believe that the price is justified."
The Soltek Golden Flame will be cheaper than 140, maybe even less than 100 bones. -
Quickie Soldering Iron Stand
Published: Friday, January 24, 2003 | By: DennisUsing a coat hanger you to can make your own soldering iron holder.
"Final note: Since we are talking about a potential fire hazard in the event of failure...make sure to test it well before using it. Make sure the metal is strong enough. Carefully set the angle of the spring (should be angled to allow easier insertion of the iron, but not angled so far that it causes the stand to flip over)." -
Blowing Stuff Up at [H]ard|OCP
Published: Thursday, January 23, 2003 | By: DennisThey sound so proud when they break stuff it is almost sickening. Here is the story, using a couple of VapoChill units (not sure what that means), an ASUS P4G8X motherboard and the latest 3.06Ghz Pentium 4 processor the [H] guys set out to make and break 4.2Ghz. Breaking is what ended up happening, under the extreme change in temperature the processor "exploded" (more like cracked) disconnecting the heat spreader from the processor core cracking it down the middle.
"While booting the machine up for another round of testing, I heard an audible *POP* come from the inside of the open VapoChill PE case, and the monitor went black. Anyone who has ever overclocked their processor knows the horrible feeling you get when this particular combination of events happens. " -
New Epox nForce2 Motherboard

"Built with three memory slots, Epox’s latest product offers a maximum memory capacity of up to 3GB. Other hardware designs include six PCI slots and four on-board USB 2.0 ports. For connectivity, the EP-8RGA+ is equipped with a 10/100 Ethernet controller and two IEEE1394a/Firewire ports."
