Normally this wouldn't have made the news but the price for services has got to make you wonder if they are desperate or just stupid.

"I went to the corner and talked to her because I was curious. I was interested in what she was doing," Sutton said. "I asked what she charges for sex, and she said, 'What would you give me?' She said it twice, and I said, 'Maybe I'll give you $10."

You can tell they don't do this much in Beaver Falls. shock smile

  • Slackware 8.1 Woes

Published: Sunday, June 23, 2002 | By: Dennis

Well it was a Slackware install weekend in celebration of the 8.1 release of Slackware. So far I have yet to get a good install given the many setbacks and problems I've experienced.
First of all the bootable ISO image wouldn't boot on any of our dedicated linux machines. After further investigation I discovered that the Slackware people used a different size boot image so unless you have an uber new computer fresh from the store or an applicable bios flash supporting the new boot image you'll have to break out the obsolete 3.5" floppies and make a set of boot and root disks (6 total).
One of the reasons I was so excited about the new Slackware was its support for the major journaling file systems like jfs and xfs. Problem is they didn't apply the patches to the kernel source so be warned if you wish to recompile your kernel while using xfs or jfs.

Stay tuned for more ranting later.

  • Soltek SL-85DR2 Review @ Tweakers Australia

Published: Friday, June 21, 2002 | By: Dennis

The SL-85DR2 is the middle of the road offering from Soltek using the i845E chipset. It features the new Silver PCB design and a series of onboard features.

"Now the board can officially support up to 2GB of PC2100/1600 DDR memory, but unfortunately the Soltek SL-85DR2 only sports two DIMM sockets. Although it helps to reduce the overall dimensions of the board, I still feel that the absolute minimum should be three."

Uhhh, You will need to take that up with Intel.

  • GeForce4 "All-in-Wonder"?

Published: Friday, June 21, 2002 | By: Dennis

No this isn't some strange ATI/nVidia hybrid but rather Msi getting creative. From the photos I gather we have all the standard GeForce4 offerings with Video In/Out and a TV tuner. Pretty much all you need to bring your entertainment center to the PC.

  • Intel Roadmap Though 2Q of 2k3

Published: Friday, June 21, 2002 | By: Dennis

Roadmaps are fun to read and usually give a very accurate account as to what is to come.

"Although executives at the firm have repeatedly said that it will have a 3GHz processor by the end of the year, the latest roadmaps still peg the chip at 2.80GHz."

  • Win One for Intel

Published: Friday, June 21, 2002 | By: Dennis

Looks like VIA's case was kicked out saying there was no market abuse on Intel's side. Though I discovered something new, it would appear that Intel refused to sell a P4 technology license to VIA. I thought it was the other way around, maybe they didn't offer Intel enough money.

  • Slackware 8.1

Published: Thursday, June 20, 2002 | By: Dennis

The newest version of Slackware has been released today and is ready for download. If you have the bandwidth and a CD burner I'd suggest getting the ISO. Of course if you don't have the bandwidth for 40bux US you can get the Slackware box set that includes everything on 4 CD's.

" Highlights of this release include KDE 3.0.1, GNOME 1.4.1 (with new additions like Evolution), the long-awaited Mozilla 1.0 browser, support for many new filesystems like ext3, ReiserFS, JFS, and XFS, and support for several new SCSI and ATA RAID controllers. "

It would appear that fast food is causing schoolgirls to become nymphomaniacs, but there is hope from this gynecologist that runs a free sex consultation clinic. Sounds fishy to me but whatever it takes to help the kids.

" A tendency for getting their lips around a Whopper has turned Japanese schoolgirls into Nippon's naughtiest nymphomaniacs, according to Shukan Gendai (6/29)."
