Published: Friday, October 5, 2001 | By: Dennis

AMD projected a major loss for the 3rd Quarter and didn't blame it on the bad economy or even the Sept. 11th attack but rather is pointing fingers at Intel. Aggressive pricing and marketing drove the active selling price of processors down.

  • ServerWorks not worried about Intel

Published: Wednesday, October 3, 2001 | By: Dennis

ServerWorks came to the server chipset table with a pretty big bang in recent years with their latest offering for the P3. This chipset provided excellent performance using simple and available SDRAM. ServerWorks isn't worried about Intel and their P4 platform either feeling they will still dominate the top players in the server market.

Personally I believe they underestimate what Intel has in store.

I cannot say that I don't agree with this author's views. He makes some valid points, though harsh, still valid. The issue of email viruses and Microsoft won't be going away any time soon (if ever) so our best defense is to keep on our toes, disable HTML in our emails, keep your software up to date, and stop opening attachments!

  • TweakMax on IDE Cables

Published: Tuesday, October 2, 2001 | By: Dennis

TweakMax has a great read on the good and bad of IDE. As some of you may know the maximum cable length for ata66/100 is 18", anything longer can cause data corruption. This corruption is also the reason for the additional grounding wires in modern ATA cable, and why rounding your ATA cables is bad if not done properly and with care. Take a look at TweakMax they touch on some really good points.

And, of course if you are curious about how you can round your ATA100 cables How-To article on the subject here.
