After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Introduction

For those of you that have followed Ninjalane over the years you may notice that we are featuring a product that not only is special and unique but is also a Ninjalane first. (I'm not going to come out and say it but if anyone happens to figure out what it is send me a PM and you might win a prize.)
When DFI launched the LanParty line of motherboards they targeted at a very narrow though highly vocal sector of the hardware market with one purpose in mind, to get DFI known in the enthusiast community. The marketing and products were solid and as a result DFI and the LanParty series are household names. The only downside to this is that most people that take the plunge into building their own computer are not rich and tend to look for deals or the best bang for their buck. While we don't prescribe to that philosophy ourselves a vast majority of the computer building community does. This is where the Infinity series from DFI fits in. The Infinity line features the same basic LanParty motherboard without many of the included goodies and/or onboard features. The minor differences aside you get the same board at a fraction of the cost. Of course always do your research before buying to ensure you have a good idea as to what you are getting.
In this review we will be looking at the DFI Infinity nF4 Ultra motherboard. This board is based on the nVidia nForce4 Ultra chipset and is designed for budget minded users that want more than a budget board.

The PCB is the industry standard and slightly fugly brown/gold but to the credit of the DFI designers it is very sturdy and features nice rounded corners. tongue smile
PCI Express is quickly taking over the motherboard scene, unfortunately high-end graphics cards are the only PCI Express devices you can currently buy. The Infinity nF4 Ultra features a single 16x PCI Express slot, 2 additional 1x PCI Express slots, and, 3 regular PCI slots so expandability shouldn't be a problem.
