  • ASUS VENTO 3600 Dream Gaming Case @ Barrys

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

Some of you may have seen a few photos of this case in our Computex 2004 coverage last year, well it would seem that ASUS is selling the case direct now.
"When you see the name VENTO and the magazine-quality photos of the case on the large, colorful (and heavy) box, you immediately begin to think of exotic Italian made sports cars and motorcycles. Once you wrestle the case from the box and unwrap it, the feeling is confirmed. Although it’s tempting to compare the ASUS VENTO 3600 with an Alienware, the VENTO 3600 looks more as if it escaped from the Ducati factory in Bologna than Area 51, with its rakish, wind-tunnel inspired profile and massive, logo-emblazoned air ducts."
Based on my extensive knowledge of cases the photos tell us that the shell is great, the case under the shell isn't much better than the Raidmax Samurai that we reviewed a few months ago.

  • Soltek K8T890 Pro-939 Review @ t-break

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

We recently had the opportunity to review this board from Soltek and walked away with nothing but good things to say.
"VIA continues to provide an alternative for the AMD market. While the nForce4 chipset has a lot of features built-in, the price of motherboards based on that chipset is also a bit higher compared to some of VIA’s solutions like this Soltek board. As you saw, the performance of this board is as good as an nForce4 Ultra and if Soltek can manage to price it considerably lower, then we can easily see mainstream users picking this board up."

  • SilverStone Temjin TJ06 Review @ The TechReport

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

Here is a case that at first glance will shock and amaze you and while the layout is shocking you will say to yourself, "Why didn't I do that?".
"SilverStone has borrowed BTX’s airflow path to create the new Temjin TJ06 enclosure. The TJ06 brings BTX-style cooling to the tried-and-true ATX platform by flipping the motherboard upside-down and moving a few things around. And unlike BTX cases, the TJ06 works with existing ATX hardware. Is it a cooler, quieter, potentially better take on ATX?"

  • What a long weekend

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

Damn what a long weekend, I suppose it wouldn't be so bad spending the entire time outside given the wonderful weather except that I was working on the new house the entire time. (I'm getting rather tired of all this painting I have been required to do.)

News to follow, just need to sort thru the weekends stash and see what's good.

  • Asus Extreme Performance PCI-Express Solution

Published: Thursday, March 3, 2005 | By: Dennis

This board comes packed with new overclocking features; I guess Asus can't stand being beaten by DFI.
"The high-performance A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard is the first SLI Main Board that supports both Single and Dual Graphic Card configurations with electronic SLI switch. This function is enabled by Pericom’s new line of PCI-Express Signal Switch products instead of the more traditional SLI selector card (PCB). By using the Pericom Signal Switch, customers achieve reduced latency, thereby enabling the best possible performance."

  • AkwaFlo RAM Cooler @ OCModShop

Published: Thursday, March 3, 2005 | By: Dennis

Watercooling for your RAM, its about time happy smile
"As of late, there seems to be a distinct split in the water cooling field. One half consists of those trying to hit the absolute maximum overclock while the other half is trying to achieve an ultra-silent cooling system with excellent temperatures. I was recently given the opportunity to review a cooling component that could very well be used for either heavy overclocking or building the quietest system possible, the AkwaFlo RAM Cooler."

  • DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B Voltmods @ TechPowerUp

Published: Thursday, March 3, 2005 | By: Dennis

Anyone have a DFI Ultra II board lying around just begging to be modded up?? Where here is a guide.
"The DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B is said to be the best NForce2 based motherboard (or even the best Socket-A board overall).
It has all the features that lots of enthusiasts all around the world were dreaming of seeing packed into one (nearly) perfect motherboard. Those massive advantages are responsible for the excellent reputation of this mainboard, but for some of the users out there this motherboard is not extreme enough, yet."

Btw this board had some insane Vdimm voltages, good ole Oskar really likes to OC memory.

  • Choosing The Right Case @ Creativemods

Published: Thursday, March 3, 2005 | By: Dennis

Choosing a case is a pretty important and daunting task, for some the choice is easy and driven by cost. (i.e. just spend 500 bones on board and processor and only have 20 left for a case) For others, like me, choosing a case becomes a question of right or wrong.

Kind of sounds like the basis for a kickass article huh?. wink smile
"I hope I covered everything I could here, but if for some reason, you still can't make a decision, I have some recommendations of my own. First of all, consider spending at least 100USD for a good case."

  • Chaintech VNF4 Ultra Motherboard @ Legit Reviews

Published: Thursday, March 3, 2005 | By: Dennis

I used to poke fun of editors that started their reviews off with a complaint by offering a bandaid for their skinned knee. In retrospect I think that is a little too harsh.

    naaa.... tongue smile
"I'm going out on a limb here in saying that I'm not totally sold on SLI. I know many have extolled its benefits (eye popping graphics using two 6800 Ultras, or good graphics using a pair of 6600GTs), but SLI has some issues that need to be sorted out. First, nVidia's exhorbant fees for utilizing the technology. Companies are paying a hefty, per board fee to use SLI, and I think we all know board makers aren't eating that cost...it is passed directly to us, the customers."
Saying something like this is like getting all pissed off because you can't afford that shiny new P4 570, I mean com'on its 800 bones for a fricking reason.
