  • CES 2005 Article @ GruntvillE

Published: Friday, February 4, 2005 | By: Dennis

Now I heard it snowed during CES but nobody actually mentioned anything about it in their reports.
"After a decent night sleep we hit the breakfast buffet and go out front to catch a cab. First thing we noticed is that it was snowing. Yes, snow in Las Vegas. I quietly wondered if I would see pigs fly and if Hell was indeed freezing over. It was funny to hear the locals, and Hobbes, get all excited about some wet snow that was melting as soon as it hit the ground. It was even funnier to see them standing on the steps at the hotel taking pictures of the snow. But I guess if you never seen it, it is quite exciting."
They have a pretty large report posted; check it out if you're still curious.

  • Corsair Ships XPERT Modules

Published: Friday, February 4, 2005 | By: Dennis

    Sorry for the late posting.
"Dubbed XPERT, this new technology uses an integrated microcontroller and embedded sensors to measure voltage, temperature, and frequency on the memory module. Each of these parameters, along with a user-programmable scrolling marquee can be shown on a big alphanumeric display that is part of the memory module. Corsair XPERT modules also have two rows of memory activity LED?s that show real-time memory activity, similar to the popular Corsair PRO series."
Hopfully we can get a few review samples here in the Ninjalane Labs sometime soon.

  • Leadtek WinFast PX6600GT TDH Review @ Neoseeker

Published: Friday, February 4, 2005 | By: Dennis

One thing I never quite got used to on Leadtek cards was the funky cooler they include. This is actually a signature item that is designed to enhance cooling and help the product stand out in the marketplace.

I still think they are a little on the weird side. wink smile
"The first time we took a look at a 6600GT SLI combo, it was not a very typical configuration - it was a single card, dual core approach from Gigabyte's 3D1. Today we'll be taking a look at a pair of Leadtek 6600GT's. On the benchmark front, the Leadtek pair will be featured in both a single card and dual card configuration up against a single 6800GT as well as Gigabyte's 3D1."

  • Vis Gothic Thumbscrews @ hard-h2o

Published: Friday, February 4, 2005 | By: Dennis

We took a look at these thumbscrews not to long ago, and while they look great they are not very user friendly and tend to do more harm than good.
"We are today reviewing a somewhat intriguing novelty: a fancy set of thumbscrews, with a very different look from the ones we are accustomed to, and so easy to install that we won't need any tool for that. As the name suggests, these thumbscrews sport a gothic, gargoyle-like look."

  • SilverStone TJ03 Case Review @ PCmoddingmy

Published: Friday, February 4, 2005 | By: Dennis

"According to SilverStone, most of the cost of TJ03 did not come from it being all aluminum even though it is more expensive to produce compared to steel. The majority of the cost comes from the aluminum finish that they have applied to the case with their top of the line brush anodized treatment on the exterior and chromate treated interior."
From a modding standpoint Alu cases are not the way to go. Don't get me wrong they look great and are very light but once you start hacking up the interior they tend to get very weak.

  • Gainward to sell brand name to Palit

Published: Wednesday, February 2, 2005 | By: Dennis

Sad times in the Ninjalane Labs sad smile
"The acquisition of the Gainward brand will help Palit to make inroads into the high-end graphics-card market as well as boost its sales in the channels in the US, Europe and Japan, where Gainward-brand graphics cards are highly recognized, market sources said. Palit, which shipped about six million graphics cards in 2004, is currently focusing on the entry-level and OEM segments, the sources said."
Never actually used a Palit video card but they don't really look that cool so they’ll prolly be off the list.

  • DFI's 855GME-MGF Review @ The Tech Report

Published: Wednesday, February 2, 2005 | By: Dennis

I think this paragraph says it all. big grin smile
"Holy poop! The Pentium M blows away the Pentium 4 in Doom 3. At 2GHz, the Pentium M beats the P4 Extreme Edition 3.4GHz and nearly ties the Pentium 4 570J at 3.8GHz. The 2.4GHz Pentium M leaves the P4 in the dust and beats out the Athlon 64 3800+, which also runs at 2.4GHz. Very impressive."
Maybe I need to start saying that more. hehe

BTW Soltek makes one of these boards with quite a few more features. These new M boards could be worthwhile to check out.

  • NL: Review Block - Watercooling

Published: Wednesday, February 2, 2005 | By: Dennis

I haven't seen many new things in the world of watercooling but it seems that more companies are jumping on the bandwagon.

Take Corsair for instance, they have released a new watercooling kit that looks pretty darn cool. That is until you discover that it really is just a re-branded Swiftech cooler.

Viperlair has a scoop: though don't expect to see a shot of the waterblock, they seemed to have left it out of the review.

Hexus is also reviewing the Cooler Master Aquagate that we looked at not to long ago. Check it out

And now the moment you have all be waiting for........ *drum roll*.......
