  • CoolerMaster Answers to Copy Cat Rumors

Published: Friday, September 3, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Many companies have followed our lead with similar styling ques and features. We are actually quite proud to be the originator of this trend. Unfortunately, some of our competitors may be claiming to be the originator of the unique Wave Master design. We would like to correct this misinformation."
There is an old saying "Good Artists Copy, Great Artists Steal". However the trick to making this work is to not get caught.

"ATI were again hidden away behind a closed door, but I was lucky enough to bump into a regular acquaintance, Richard Huddy (European Developer Relations Manager for ATI). I asked him about the possibility of X800 SLI, but his official line was to direct me to the up-and–coming solution from Alienware. He did, however, wonder how many people would be able to afford such a high-end rig, and we could take that as a hint that ATI aren’t taking the technology too seriously."
This really sounds a lot like the experience we had at Comdex 2002. Say hello to Breakdown shown in the first photo.

Yes its true you can look high and low over the entire website and not find a single photo of yours truly, partially because I'm the one taking all of the photos. wink smile

  • Intel still plagued by delays, to postpone Madison 9M

Published: Thursday, September 2, 2004 | By: Dennis

"As indicated previously, the Madison 9M will have a 9MB L3 cache but it will run at a clock speed of 1.6GHz, instead of the originally planned 1.7GHz, said sources at Taiwan server makers.

The delay has raised doubts about Intel’s plan to launch a dual-core version, codenamed Montecito, for its Itanium 2 server line in the third quarter of next year, the sources noted."

Dual Core is where the future is, much like SMP back in the days of old.

  • ATI likely to postpone RS400 and RS480

Published: Thursday, September 2, 2004 | By: Dennis

"ATI Technologies is likely to postpone the launch of its new integrated north bridge chipsets, the RS400 and RS480, to the fourth quarter of this year, instead of the third quarter as originally planned, according to sources at Taiwan PC makers."
We saw similar ATI chipsets at Computex this year though they seemed to be a rather tame by current chipset standards.

  • Intel will demo its first multi-core CPU at IDF

Published: Thursday, September 2, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Past IDF events have been known for their signature demos of super-cooled, ultra-cranked CPUs aimed at wowing the audience with a new frequency ceiling. Those days are over given the decline of performance-hungry applications and the rise of mobile computing."
    Sad but true sad smile

  • AMD Demonstrates World's First X86 Dual-Core Processor

Published: Tuesday, August 31, 2004 | By: Dennis

"SUNNYVALE, CALIF.-August 31, 2004 -, AMD (NYSE: AMD) announces it is demonstrating the industry's first x86 dual-core processor. During demonstrations held at the company's Austin facilities, AMD is showing an HP ProLiant DL585 server powered by four dual-core AMD Opteron(tm) processors manufactured on 90nm silicon-on-insulator process technology.

With a simple upgrade path to more efficient computing, based on AMD's existing system infrastructure and industry-standard architecture, enterprise customers can expect more efficient processing power without the penalties of increased power consumption and heat dissipation. The dual-core AMD Opteron processor for servers and workstations is expected to offer the best performance per watt in the market when AMD plans to make it available in mid-2005."
