HighPoint Rocket 1511 Review @ Furioustech
Published: Friday, September 5, 2003 | By: Dennis"HighPoint Technologies Rocket 1511 External SATA Host Adapter The Rocket 1511 Host Adapter is a single channel External SATA controller card that can support SATA or IDE hard disk drives. The external channel is ideal for removable storage applications, and is designed for use with RocketMate external disk enclosures. Single SATA channel operation for high-performance data storage and retrieval"
I've never been one to want to actually have an external HDD but then again I use my network to move files around from machine to machine.
The external box is just begging to be modded, check it out if you don't believe me. -
X-Super Alien Case @ PimpRig
Published: Friday, September 5, 2003 | By: Dennis"The 80MM blue UV reavtive fans with quad blue LED’s are to quote Strongbad "AWESOME!". The LED wiring is considerably superior than any of the premod LED fans I have ever seen. Made by Power Cool, each LED has separate wires running from it to the central hub to get power (unlike the ones I had seen in the past that had a flexible circuit board connecting them all together). "
To bad this case is just a modded Antec'esqe case with a paint job. -
Triplex REDai RADEON 9600 PRO Review @ Hardware Zone
Published: Friday, September 5, 2003 | By: DennisI haven't seen much from Triplex lately but it appears that they are still building silver video cards.
"The new Triplex REDai RADEON 9600 PRO is fortunately part of the Millennium Silver series and that alone signifies its targeted prosumer / gaming enthusiast segment. They do have an alternative lower priced version of the card based on the normal PCB, since silver isn’t exactly an affordable element. " -
Slow News Day
Published: Thursday, September 4, 2003 | By: DennisI dunno if this is due to the US holiday last Monday or the impending Computex show in Taipei but tech news has really slowed down to crawl.
We're looking though so stay tuned. -
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 200GB Review @ Intelforums
Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2003 | By: Dennis" As can be seen from the tests, the fluid bearings do seem to have a positive affect on overall HDD noise, with the DiamondPlus9 series of drives (both the 6Y200M0 and the 6Y200P0) being the quietest drives we have tested to date. The WD360GD now becomes our 2d quietest drive tested, but it must be noted it is running @ 10,000rpm."
I'm currently running a Diamond Plus drive in my workstation here and to be honest I find the drive to be rather slow, even with it running at 7200rpm. -
Swiftech H20-8500 Kit Review @ The Tech Lounge
Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2003 | By: DennisHere is a review of a watercooling kit from Swifttech and looks to have everything that you will need to get started.
" The kit is built around the ever popular and extremely successful MCW5000 CPU water block. The water block uses Swiftech's patent pending Diamond-Pin Matrix© technology. The CPU block comes with the necessary hardware for mounting on AMD and P4 boards. The GPU water block is mountable on ATI and NVidia's latest cards. The MCR80-F radiator uses two 80mm fans, and only requires a single 80mm opening in your case to be mounted on."
The pump moves quite a bit of water though the radiator seems to be a little undersized. -
Corsair HydroCool 200 Review @ PimpRig
Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2003 | By: DennisThis is that new external watercooling system from Corsair. Koolance has a similar product, the Exos, though if my memory serves doesn't quite have the same feature set.
"The front of the unit has several product identifiers, including the Corsair corporate logo. There is a large LCD display, which during operation will display the temperature in red characters. Also on the front panel are the Celsius and Fahrenheit switches which toggle between display modes. These buttons also serve as data entry points when configuring alarms." -
Asus nForce3 w/ AMD Opteron 240 Review @ hardwarezoom
Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2003 | By: Dennis"At the back of the CPU, you will find that the Opteron is completely filled up with pins. In fact, there are 940 of them! It is very important to take note of the CPU's orientation to avoid bending or breaking any of the fine pins.
Both Pentium 4-3.0Ghz and Opteron 240 comes with a copper based aluminium heatsink fan. Opteron heatsink fan is still using the traditional 2 clips design, we prefer Pentium 4 heatsink because no screw driver is required during installation."
The photos of the Opteron haven't changed much over the past year or so. I think the first time I ever saw one was over at that Anandtech site. -
PolarFLO Water Block Review @ Techware Labs
Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2003 | By: DennisThis waterblock look pretty dang sweet and used the three water port approach to circulation. One inlet and 2 Outlets.
"It should be mentioned that the PolarFLO is one of the very few blocks on the market that is universal. This means that the holes you see in the block are drilled for both an AMD and anIntel interface. This forethought by Horse of Iron means that you don't have to buy two separate blocks, and that if you decide to change processor types your water block should fit your new board." -
OCZ EL DDR PC-4000 Review @ Legit Reviews
Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2003 | By: Dennis"The "EL" stands for Enhanced Latency, which has carried over from some of their other memory products."
Is it just me or does "Enhanced Latency" just seem like going backwards in terms of memory performance.
Regardless the timings are the same as the Corsair XMS4000 Twinx Modules that we reviewed not to long ago.
