Crucial PC2700 Review @ Adrians Rojak Pot
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: DennisI never actually tried to overclock Crucial memory since the modules tend to lack in the aggressive timings department. Though the rojakpot.com guys had no problems what so ever. Just to think 412Mhz from a module without heatspreaders.
"Note that Crucial absolutely does NOT support overclocking. Running Crucial memory outside of specifications will void the warranty. When you overclock Crucial's DIMMs, you are doing so at your own risk. But frankly, with such a excellent memory module, it would be hard not to overclock it. In fact, overclocking it is a piece of cake! Overclockers should definitely consider this DIMM for their systems."
Not to be left out in some free advertising, Buy your Crucial memory now from Crucial.com!. -
800MHz FSB P4 Shipments Back to Normal
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: DennisStarting next week.
I didn't actually post news of the P4 Shipment halt since I didn't expect it to last more than a week or so. Looks like I was right. The Pentium 4 3.00Ghz 200Mhz FSB processors are back on track, yeah!! -
Intel Grants SiS a New P4 License
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: Dennis"Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) on April 16 announced that it has signed an agreement with Intel, obtaining technology licensing for the 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) standard used in Intel’s new-generation Pentium 4 processors and chipsets.
With the agreement, SiS is now the second chipset designer to acquire the technology license, following VIA Technologies, which gained the same right in a settlement with Intel on April 7."
I was halfway thinking they got this thing for free.
"Some observers in the chipset industry noted that Intel’s terms with the two major Taiwanese chipset designers suggested not only Intel’s solid market position but also the chip giant’s intention to re-ignite the war between VIA and SiS." -
More Gainward CoolFX Pictures
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: DennisTons of pics!
" However the most important thing about this new revision of the water-cooling solution is that it can be used on other Gainward cards. The fittings were removed from the dummy 5800 Ultra board and placed on a Gainward 5200 Ultra. Quickly we saw massive overclocks and low temperatures (26-27C whilst running 3DMark 2001). For reference, we usually see temperatures of 59-64C on the 5800 Ultra cards."
Almost makes you want to get one huh. -
Canterwood(875P) memory recommendations from Corsair
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: Dennis"There has been some confusion on which memory is best for new motherboards based on the Intel Canterwood (875P) chip set. At this point, Corsair is recommending that people use pairs of either XMS3200C2 or XMS3500C2 modules. They do, however, not recommend the use of XMS3200LL modules, including TwinX 'LL'. This recommendation is based on results they have received in their motherboard lab."
I haven't posted much on the Canterwood release but we are still early in the product cycle, considering that we are early I'd expect these Corsair recommendations to change as Canterwood matures in the marketplace. -
Color Change Rheobus Review @ Twisted Mods
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: Dennis" The front of the unit disappointed me; it was so raw, it was unattractive. It was pretty much just a sheet of half polished metal with some writing and a really half-assed design on it in blue ink. The writing consists of Fan1, Fan2, Fan3, Fan4, and the voltages printed beside each knob. The look of the front is not exactly exciting to the modder who strives for perfection."
Never really liked these things, drive bays should have drives in them . Besides I'd much rather have a thermally controlled fan system over one with a dial. -
Zippy EL-610 Luminescent Keyboard Review @ 3dxtreme
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | By: DennisOur review of the same product can be located here and in a way I would have to agree with Dean on his comments.
"I thought long and hard about this....who would be interested in this keyboard? Lan Party goers, maybe someone that uses a laptop frequently and prefers a smaller keyboard, folks with smaller hands. I'm not really sure what type of users this keyboard was geared towards and feel it's more of a novelty item really."
Oh an did I mention that this keyboard is supa small? -
Zippy Electron Luminescence Keyboard Review Posted
Published: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 | By: DennisThis keyboard is a very unique product that doesn’t appear to have a lot of real world usage. However, it does fill the need for a usable keyboard in low light conditions quite well.
Not to mention an endless supply of modding possibilities. -
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP Canterwood Review @ HardwareZone
Published: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 | By: Dennis"The new GA-8KNXP Ultra is Gigabyte's latest motherboard to hit town with a full array of features that's simply quite breathtaking. Packed with a lot of interesting and useful features, the GA-8KNXP Ultra's design is simply targeted for the super power user as those thinking to purchase this board would have probably planned to built their ultimate dream system."
Any overclocking??.. Nope. The board does have onboard SCSI so I guess its not a total loss. -
Gainward GeForce FX 5800 Ultra Review @ NordicHardware
Published: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 | By: DennisYou may remember a press release from Gainward stating how they upgraded the cooling to run quieter than the stock solution. Here is what NH has to say about the new fan.
" Despite the noise reduction the cards fan still makes a lot of sound. More than any graphic card and CPU cooler we ever tried. Though this is only when we use it in 3D mode. When in 2D mode the card underclocks itself and the fan slows down. While doing that, the card is silent, so silent that I can't separate it from my CPU fan (~20dB), which is more than OK."
Gainward also has a GeForceFX water-cooling solution in the works that should help reduce the fan noise as well.
