After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

    Introduction

Imagine this; there you are quietly working on your laptop.  You are without a table so the computer is sitting across your lap and all of a sudden your legs begin to start burning.  This isn't a nasty skin rash but rather heat from your laptop passing thru your clothes only to burn you.  Of course the only way around this is to place your laptop on a solid surface or just not use it as long.

You see laptop mfgs do everything they can to keep their systems cool with the primary concern being the longevity of the laptop and not so much for the environment around it.  Under normal conditions the system works flawless, the laptop stays cool so you can compute longer.  However once you restrict the air flow by using your lap or various other soft objects the computer will heat up and transfer that heat into the nearest object, namely you.

In this review we will be looking at the Thermaltake T3000 fanless notebook cooler.  This is a very simple device for helping to keep you and your laptop cool.  The lack of cooling fans means that no external power source is required and that its primary method of cooling is by allowing air to freely access the laptop and prevent heat from accessing you.
The T3000 is constructed from a thin piece of black anodized aluminum and features a brushed metal finish and silkscreen graphics.  The underside of the cooler features 4 copper heatpipes that run the entire width of the cooler.  Much like a CPU cooler these heatpipes are designed to help move heat from a hot zone to a colder one, in this case helping spread the transferred heat over the entire surface.
In terms of size the Thermaltake T3000 laptop cooler will fit laptops with a screen size of 15" or less.  The cooler is very light and portable allowing you to use the cooler in almost every situation.  It will even fit into your laptop bag for on the road laptop coolness.
