After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

  • Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H Motherboard Review

It is very difficult to classify a MicroATX motherboard; do you consider it a mainstream component for business or multimedia systems or say something like "it's perfect for HTPC"?  In the case of the GA-880GMA-UD2H we might contend it is both.  The board is compact, comes with onboard video, 7.1 channel digital sound, supports the latest AM3 processors, and features the latest in USB3 and SATA6 technologies.  Given those qualifications the board should work great in any situation where size is a limiting factor.

As was mentioned before the Gigabyte GA-880GMA is built on the AMD 880G Chipset and comes with a Radeon HD4250 graphics processor.  This GPU does not have the power to be a gaming powerhouse but can support some light 3D tasks, video decoding, and general office applications.  If you happen to need a more graphics power the board comes with a 16x PCIe 2.0 graphics slot that will accept any modern video card and also gives you the option for CrossfireX with the onboard GPU.
