    Board Layout and Features Cont.

    The power supply or PWM found on the DK edition motherboards is typically and analog design using caps, mosfets, and coils over the digital PWM found on the UT designs.  In some ways people like the analog designs over the digital as they say the power is smoother and has a higher peak output.  While testing this would be difficult the overclocking potential will speak volumes.

    The 790FXB features a 5 phase power supply with one of the phases dedicated to the Northbridge chip; this helps to stabilize the system under almost all overclocking conditions.
    Motherboard cooling is a little on the light side, you will find a heatsink on the Northbridge chip that is connected via a heatpipe to the PWM mosfets.  The cooling system can handle the heat output but does require an active cooler to help them perform.  OEM coolers should be able to provide some air movement however during our testing we found a single 80m fan to be the best option

    The 790FXB-M3H5 is a DDR3 only motherboard and operates using the integrated DDR3 memory controller found in the Phenom II processors.  Some of the DDR2 edition boards can in fact run AM3 processors however running a DDR2 processor on this board will damage the processor beyond repair. 
    The ATX Connector is typical of a LanParty motherboard and features classic PS/2 keyboard and mouse connectors, digital audio over optical and RCA, 6 USB ports, 1 Gigabit Ethernet, and 6 analog audio ports for full surround sound.  To get a little extra cooling area the PWM heatsink extends over the connectors but is otherwise out of the way.
