  • DFI LanParty KT400A Review @ Ohls-Place

Published: Tuesday, June 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

"On the climb with the FSB everything went fine until we hit 180 MHz. At this point no matter what voltage we added to the core or the memory, there was no way it would boot into windows. While the memory bandwidth was respectable it never did attain the level of a reference KT-400 board. Let's hope this is a factor related to the board being new and the bios not being tweaked yet. The score in SuperPi is actually very resepectful and it may be an indication of the potential of the board."
I really like this board series and I'm thinking that DFI will become a pretty big player in the enthusiast market. Here is the Ninjalane version for comparison.

  • GeForce FX 5600 Review @ Hardfind

Published: Tuesday, June 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Keep in mind that this card is not a good choice if the user requirement is to run at high resolution with IQ settings maxed. No card occupying the same market position will do that. Only a card in the $300-$500 price range will provide such usable functionality.

Additionally, there may be a promise of the future with the GeForce 5600 FX. If currently available information holds true, this may be the best card in its class (less its Ultra brethren) for running the highly anticipated Doom III."

And stuff, I seem to remember seeing the GPU heatsink before.. oh yes, they were used on the old VisionTek cards. tongue smile

This is one of the most unique enthusiast driven motherboards that I have seen in a long time, granted you have your Abit and Asus boards out there but neither of them feature UV sensitive expansion slots and expansive set of included accessories.

  • Cold beer for hot days

Published: Monday, June 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

Check this mod out happy smile
" While drinking certain dark beers in the sun, I came to think about how to keep the beer cold until I finished it. Normally this isn't a big problem as I usually finish them before they get warm, but on really hot days this can be a problem. Having some hardware lying around in my apartment, I decided to build something that could keep the beer cool. Read on to see how I made my own PeltierBeer."
Warm beer can be a real problem so do what you can to ensure that it stays cold.

Thank Talon for the news post.

  • DFI Lan Party KT400A Review @ The Tech Lounge

Published: Monday, June 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

" As the graph shows, both motherboards perform about the same, but I didn’t expect much of a difference. The Lan Party takes the lead in every test except for the CPU Arithmetic FPU test where the Biostar wins by about 12 MFLOPS. Overall, the Lan Party KT400a allows for better CPU usage."
It is too bad they didn't take a good photo of this board under the blacklight, It looks amazing. big grin smile

More on that later. wink smile

This is one of those RAID cards that all the chix dig. big grin smile
"When I first saw this particular raid card. I thought to myself, "That thing is long!". Quite an intelligent observation eh? Well yes it is long but there are longer cards."
This is probably one of the better high-end IDE RAID solutions out there and doesn’t' cost an arm and a leg.

  • Albatron PX865PE Pro II Review @ HardAvenue

Published: Monday, June 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

"However Albatron have jumped on the 865 bandwagon very early, obviously they see this chipset doing well and quite frankly so do we. However it takes more than just a good chipset for a motherboard to do well in the retail market, quality features that set it apart from the rest are a must, which is where Albatron have been known to shine."
I'm a fan of the i865PE. big grin smile though the floppy connector is still under the last PCI slot, why don't they just not put it on there. Sheesh

  • Triplex Radeon 9800 Pro Review @ VR-Zone

Published: Monday, June 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

When I think of Triplex two things come to mind, Alu carrying case and silver PCB. You get neither of these things with the 9800 Pro from Triplex. sad smile
"Triplex Radeon 9800 Pro card looks exactly like the reference ATi Radeon 9800 Pro card with its red PCB, similar components layout. The PCB is based on 8 layers design and is slightly longer than the Radeon 9700 Pro card."
