  • Seagate Barracuda 7200 Review @ HardwareZone

Published: Wednesday, July 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Today, we'll look at the flagship model of the series which comes with a large 8MB buffer. The 8MB version of the Barracuda 7200.7 comes with two different offerings, one based on the Ultra ATA-100 interface and the other for the new Serial ATA standard."
As was pointed out in the Soltek SL-86SPE-L Review SerialATA is nice interface but current SerialATA drives aren't as efficient as current Parallel ATA drives. I'd give them another 6-10months to mature. wink smile

  • Netscape 7.1 Released

Published: Tuesday, July 1, 2003 | By: Dennis

As some of you may already know I have been a fan of Netscape browsers for quite some time now and find them superior to IE in a many ways. Now I'm not going to pull an apple commercial and say that everyone should switch, but I will recommend that you at least give the latest version of Netscape (7.1) a try.

For those of you still holding a grudge against Netscape for selling out to AOL but not switching away from their IE dependency you can get the same basic browser engine with the new Mozilla 1.4 http://www.mozilla.org/

Now go forth and browse in peace.

  • Shuttle AB60/RS Review @ Extreme Overclocking

Published: Tuesday, July 1, 2003 | By: Dennis

"This section is going to be very short because we encountered a few issues or actually one major issue.
    --snip--
we tried many other FSB's. All of which never worked so it was totally impossible to overclock this motherboard. We even tried our 3.2 and 3.0 processors and still had no luck."

They are talking about how this board has FSB adjustments up to 233Mhz but when set at 233Mhz it was still running at 200Mhz. Thats what you get for buying a Shuttle.

Published: Monday, June 30, 2003 | By: Dennis

I don't normally post Asus board reviews but this Springdale enabled board looks kind of fun.
"This board is the first in the new AI series (stands for "Artificial Intelligence"). This motherboard offers powerful expansivity options as well as quite interesting "Hyper Path" mode that gives a considerable system performance boost. "
I hope the board is better than the movie.

  • Corsair Hydrocool Review @ NordicHardware

Published: Monday, June 30, 2003 | By: Dennis

NordicHardware has posted their review of the new watercooling box from Corsair called "Hydrocool". Personally I'm not a fan of the external watercooling units but I hear they are actually pretty easy to use.
"The point of using HydroCool is that you won't have to cut or make a fuss with your chassis to get water cooling, and the constructers have really done a fine job in making this possible. The whole system is built inside a relativily small box which is set next to the computer."
