New Dual Channel DDR Boards From MSI
Published: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 | By: Dennis"Micro-Star International (MSI) recently released a new Pentium 4-platform motherboard line, the GNB Max series. Adopting Intel’s E7205 chipset (codenamed Granite Bay), the GNB Max series is able to support the latest Hyper-Threading Technology, AGP 8x graphics and dual-channel DDR memory."

CoolerMaster HSC-V62 Copper Heatsink Review @ RadiativeNZ
Published: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 | By: DennisThe HSC-V62 looks to be your typical thin-fin copper heatsink with the addition of a thermally controlled variable speed fan. In the past I've disliked this approach since the thermal control was more dependant on case temperature than CPU temperature. Coolermaster took this into account and actually placed the sensor under the fan instead.

Comdex Over
Published: Monday, November 25, 2002 | By: DennisWith Comdex officially over a few sites have released their reports of Comdex and as you can guess they had better luck getting in to see other Vendors.
I've seen a few shots of the internal ATI booth along with the elusive AMD meeting room. Like I mentioned in my Comdex write-ups I didn't have a lot of time to spend in Las Vegas so I wasn't able to hit the other hotels and see what they had to offer, and from what I saw quite a few vendors opted to have their shows in hotel convention rooms instead of in the Convention Center.

New Product Schedules Out for Springdale
Published: Monday, November 25, 2002 | By: Dennis"VIA, SiS and ALi release new product schedules due to Springdale changes"
Nothing to outrageous here but it does set some schedules back slightly, while others simply are adapting to the change.
"With samples of its P4X600A expected to be finished in January, VIA is likely to be the first to introduce an 800MHz FSB and dual-channel DDR400 chipset. VIA said that the P4X600A will offer the technology support through overclocking." -

Ellen Feiss Speaks
Published: Sunday, November 24, 2002 | By: DennisThe stoner chix strikes again, but according to her she wasn't stoned, but does admit to being on drugs at the time. Benedryl
"Does it bother you at all that some of your fame might be related to your perceived state of sobriety in the commercial?
It doesn’t really bother me. I do admit to looking pretty out of it in that commercial — I think I look horrible. It was after school, but I was the last person to make the commercial, so by the time I made it it was like 10, so I was really tired. The funny thing was, I was on drugs! I was on Benedryl, my allergy medication, so I was really out of it anyway. That’s why my eyes were all red, because I have seasonal allergies. But no one believes me." -
Springdale Changes and Pressure
Published: Friday, November 22, 2002 | By: DennisWhile I was at Comdex Digitimes released a story announcing the FSB change for the Springdale chipset saying that it will be accelerated from 133x4 to 200x4. It is unlike Intel to make such an abrupt change in their product lines but I believe in the long run it will be for the best. VIA, SIS and AMD might not think so.
"Taiwanese chipset designers Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) and VIA Technologies may both feel the impact, industry sources said. SiS, though having Pentium 4 technology licensing from Intel, will need to adjust its product designs and change the FSB standard of its new-generation chipsets, including the SiS648FX and SiS655, from 677MHz to 800MHz."
The only drawback will be the "in-between" products like "Granite Bay" that will in effect be released and almost immediately put out to pasture. -
Nvidia Unveils the Crush K8
Published: Friday, November 22, 2002 | By: Dennis"With AMD incorporating the formerly north bridge-based memory controller into its upcoming K8 processors, the role of the north bridge chip will become rather limited, Drew Henry, Nvidia’s senior director of platform product management said. As a result, Nvidia decided to include the AGP controller interface in the south bridge to shorten motherboard makers’ design time, he added."
According to the article the chipset was only shown to certain customers at Comdex, I didn't even know it existed. -
Granite Bay gets Mixed Support
Published: Thursday, November 21, 2002 | By: Dennis" One of the problems with the Granite Bay chipset is that the motherboard makers have already been told about the 800MHz system bus "Canterwood" chipset, which Intel is now expected to launch in the second quarter of next year."
Man you wait all year for what you think to be the best thing since sliced cheese and they go and change the formula on you. This cycle isn't new and it won't be the last time we see it either.
