After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at

    Web Configuration Cont.

Looking through the web configuration pages we start with the setup again and each step gets a small description for what it does.
Network Settings and is where most of the magic happens like setting up a DHCP server for your network.  The options along the left are for enabling the different applications found on the QNAP TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS.
Device Configuration is where you can inspect and maintain your RAID volumes along with getting detailed information on the various drives including the attached USB devices.

Here we get to setup users and passwords. You can also setup groups for certain users including admins..
    Moving on
System Tools has some of the options people really look for on a NAS. Here you can do things like setting up Backup/Restore, tweaking logos, enable remote access, system updates and even the configuration of alert notifications if any problems happen to come up.

The last page of system configuration is comprised of a system log that displays all sort of hardware information from logins to overall connections. It even gives you the temperature of each hard drive.
Going through the various configuration pages gives you a real idea as to what you are getting with the TS-209 Pro and it is not some kind of cheap NAS.  Instead you get a full-blown enterprise device that has been scaled down into a small user-friendly design.

Next we will move thru the included applications and you'll see some of the fun stuff the QNAP TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS can do.
