After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Application - Surveillance Station

One of the last applications that comes standard on QNAP TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS is called the Surveillance Station. QNAP really wanted us to look at this little gem as it’s a great addition to this network appliance.  Sadly we could not get hold of an IP camera to fully test this application but the photos below should give you a good idea as how it all works.
What we are looking at here is a neat little feature that allows it to record video from two IP cameras. The purpose is to create a small video security system that can be applied for just about any purpose.  Maybe you want to catch that person who keeps stealing your newspaper or just keep tabs on who accesses your garage.  The possibilities are endless.
Setup is rather straight forward, when you enter the IP address of your camera the software will start showing you what is being recorded.
The Playback tab allows you to view past recorded events or even export them to specific folders for all to download and watch.
The last tab is dedicated to the surveillance logs and works much like an event viewer.
