After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased Hardwareasylum.com in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at Hardwareasylum.com

    Foxconn Quantum Force Inferno Katana

The Inferno Katana is another very pretty motherboard from the Foxconn Quantum Force line.  What makes this board special is not the color, but the chipset.  Intel’s P55 chipset takes a different approach to PCI Express by moving the PCI Express controller from the primary chipset to the CPU.  What this does is allows Intel to produce a much simpler chipset and make the entire platform a little more affordable.
The slot layout almost mimics the Intel chipset diagram with the topmost PCI Express slots either being 16x with a single card or 8x each with 2 cards installed.  The very last slot is hardwired to 4x and gets its bandwidth from the P55 chipset instead of the processor.
