After careful consideration I have decided to transfer all hardware review activities to a new domain.  I purchased in 2012 and have been working hard to build a new and improved Ninjalane on that domain.  If you are reading this you have reached one of the archived articles, news, projects and/or reviews that were left behind during the site migration.

Please update your bookmarks and be sure to visit the new and improved Ninjalane at

Intel’s X48 was the last chipset in a long line of “classic” system architecture where the memory controller was still contained in the chipset thus allowing you a ton of flexibility in choosing a processor for your system.  Of course this classic architecture tended to cost more to produce and were rather limited in their PCI Express configurations.
Multi-GPU availability was still limited during the reign of the X48 which can be seen in the overall slot layout.  You will find a total of foru PCI Express slots three of which can support video cards.  Slots two and six run at full 16x bandwidth while slot four runs at 4x with a 1.0 specification.  The slot layout suggests the board is fully optimized for dual card operation and while we did attempt a triple card configuration the drivers would not recognize the card.
